# Getting Started

> Get started with ABBYY FineReader Engine: pick a usage scenario, review the glossary and samples, then dive into the API Reference and advanced techniques.

We recommend starting your work with ABBYY FineReader Engine by selecting the appropriate [scenario](/fine-reader/engine/introduction/basic-usage-scenarios-overview). After you select the appropriate scenario, you can find a detailed description of the scenario, implementation advice, and suggestions on optimizing the code for specific tasks in the [Basic Usage Scenarios](/fine-reader/engine/guided-tour/basic-usage-scenarios-implementation) section. Additionally, you may familiarize yourself with ABBYY FineReader Engine-basic terms in [Glossary](/fine-reader/engine/introduction/glossary).

If your task is not compatible with any of the basic scenarios, you may find useful advices in the [Advanced Techniques](/fine-reader/engine/guided-tour/advanced-techniques) section. We recommend you to refer to the [Programming Aspects](/fine-reader/engine/guided-tour/advanced-techniques/programming-aspects) section, where you can find useful information on using ABBYY FineReader Engine in different programming languages. You can also take a look at the [Samples](/fine-reader/engine/guided-tour/samples) provided with the ABBYY FineReader Engine developer package for quick start. For specific information on the API, see the detailed [API Reference](/fine-reader/engine/api-reference/alphabetical-list-of-objects-and-interfaces) in this Developer's Help.
