# Set up the Processing Server

> Set up the ABBYY FlexiCapture Processing Server: assign its role, point it at the Application Server, add Processing Stations, and define workflow settings.

To set up the Processing Server, complete the following steps.

  <Step title="Assign the Processing Server role">
    Assign the Processing Server role to the user under whose account the Processing Server is running.

    <Note>
      If the Processing Server is installed on the same computer as the Application Server and runs under the Network Service account (the default), the role is assigned automatically and you can skip this step.

    If the role is not assigned automatically, grant the necessary permissions to the Processing Server on the **Settings → Users** page of the Administration and Monitoring Console.

    When the Processing Server is installed on a different computer than the Application Server and runs under the Network Service account, the user is displayed as `<Domain>\<Machine Name>$` in the Administration and Monitoring Console. If the Processing Server service runs under a different user, the role is assigned to that user.

  <Step title="Start the Processing Server Monitor">
    Click **Start → All Programs → ABBYY FlexiCapture 12 Servers → Processing Server**.

  <Step title="Specify the Application Server address">
    In the Processing Server Monitor, click **Actions → Properties** and, in the dialog box that opens, specify the address of the Application Server (for example, `https://ApplicationServer`). If the Processing Server and the Application Server are installed on the same computer, the address is specified automatically.

  <Step title="Start the Processing Server">

  <Step title="Add Processing Stations">
    Select **Stations** in the tree and click <img src="https://mintcdn.com/abbyy/39LtOHLEp1q7pm1x/images/flexi-capture/AddStation.gif?fit=max&auto=format&n=39LtOHLEp1q7pm1x&q=85&s=c926888a1e12b4d4037fe6a804717d3f" alt="Add" style={{display:"inline-block",verticalAlign:"middle",margin:0}} width="22" height="22" data-path="images/flexi-capture/AddStation.gif" />. In the dialog box that opens, select the stations based on the names of their computers, or click **Browse...** to find stations on the network.

    After adding a station, specify its parameters in the **Station Properties** dialog box (click **Actions → Properties**). The station starts automatically (this takes about a minute). If the station requires lengthy setup or you do not want to start it, clear the **Start automatically** option in the station properties. To start stations manually, select them in the Processing Server Monitor main window and click <img src="https://mintcdn.com/abbyy/mpS3pcxC_lkohQUS/images/flexi-capture/ProcServer_StartStation.gif?fit=max&auto=format&n=mpS3pcxC_lkohQUS&q=85&s=fbd07ff728e6fa33ec882a0f0b76c4ae" alt="Start station" style={{display:"inline-block",verticalAlign:"middle",margin:0}} width="26" height="24" data-path="images/flexi-capture/ProcServer_StartStation.gif" />.

    <Note>
      We do not recommend installing the Processing Station on the computer where the FlexiCapture servers are installed, as this will degrade server performance.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Create station groups (optional)">
    If required, create one or more station groups. Select **Station groups** in the tree and click <img src="https://mintcdn.com/abbyy/39LtOHLEp1q7pm1x/images/flexi-capture/AddStation.gif?fit=max&auto=format&n=39LtOHLEp1q7pm1x&q=85&s=c926888a1e12b4d4037fe6a804717d3f" alt="Add" style={{display:"inline-block",verticalAlign:"middle",margin:0}} width="22" height="22" data-path="images/flexi-capture/AddStation.gif" />. In the dialog box that opens, specify a group name and select the stations.

  <Step title="Specify processing settings (optional)">
    If required, specify processing settings for your project on the Project Setup Station. The settings you specify apply to batches of the Default type. Click **Project → Project Properties...** and then click the **Workflow** tab.

    If your project contains various batch types, specify workflow settings for each: click **Project → Batch Types...**, select a batch type, click **Edit...**, and in the dialog box that opens click the **Workflow** tab.
