# Update ABBYY FlexiCapture 12

> Update your current ABBYY FlexiCapture 12 release: finish processing, back up the database and file storage, install the latest build, and upgrade projects.

To update your current version of FC 12, complete the following steps.

    Finish the processing of all of your current documents.

    [Back up](/flexi-capture/appendix/backup) your database and file storage.

    <Note>
      You can always [restore your system](/flexi-capture/appendix/backup#restore) from this backup.
    </Note>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Install the latest version of FC 12">
    [Install](/flexi-capture/admin-guide/demo-install) the latest version of FC 12 on all machines where FlexiCapture Servers and Stations are installed.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Connect your existing database">
    Connect your existing database to the newly installed version of FC 12:

    1. Start the Administration and Monitoring Console of ABBYY FlexiCapture 12, select **Settings → Application server**, and click the **Connect to Existing Database** button.
    2. Specify the name of the database server, the name of the database, and the path to the file storage location that were used by your earlier version of ABBYY FlexiCapture 12, and click **OK**.   <Step title="Upgrade your projects">
    One by one, open each of your projects from the Application Server on the FC 12 Project Setup Station. When you open a project, it is upgraded to the latest version of FC 12. You can also use [FCAdminTools](/flexi-capture/admin-guide/upgrade-project) to upgrade the projects.

Once the new version of FC 12 is installed, you can resume processing your tasks even while some of your projects are still being updated. The program will first get tasks from projects that have been fully updated.

You can use [FCAdminTools](/flexi-capture/admin-guide/projects-administration) to find out which projects are still waiting to be updated. For details, see the [CheckProjectsVersion](/flexi-capture/admin-guide/check-projects-version) command description in the Administrator's Guide.
