# Creating import profiles

> Streamline image import in ABBYY FlexiCapture by creating import profiles that let Operators scan or import from Hot Folders at the click of a button.

Document processing starts with adding new images into the batch. These can be paper documents to be scanned or electronic images to be imported.

    Images can be added:

    * automatically on the Processing Stations. To automate image import, you need to create an image import profile on the Project Setup Station and specify the Hot Folders to be used. Images will be imported from the Hot Folders automatically.
    * manually by the Operators of the Scanning Stations. To scan pages, the Operator of a Scanning Station must create scanning profiles.

If images are often obtained from different sources, several import profiles can be created and the Operator can then select the appropriate profile for each source.

On the Project Setup Station, you can debug Document Definitions by creating batches, adding document images into them, and processing them. The process of adding images can also be automated: the Operator of the Project Setup Station can create an image import profile that uses a scanner.

The Operator begins by adding new images to the project: these can be either hardcopy documents that need to be scanned, or existing electronic images.

Frequently repeated actions or adding images from the same source can be automated to enable import at the click of a button. To do this, create an image import profile. Additionally, you can configure the processing of incoming images and the periodic addition of images in background mode. Once the required settings have been configured, images will be scanned or imported from a preset source at the click of a button, and received images will be processed (for example, despeckled). If necessary, you can change the source of image import or its settings.

If import sources change frequently, you can create several import profiles and switch between them to avoid having to change import source settings all the time.

To add an import profile, click \*\*Project →\*\*Image Import Profiles... in the main program window. In the dialog box that opens you can create new import profiles and also edit, remove, and copy existing profiles.
