# Region

> Region elements define an image area in a FlexiLayout without restricting its contents, letting you compute regions regardless of the objects inside.

**Region** is an element in a FlexiLayout that defines an area on an image without imposing any restrictions on the data inside. The search area of an element may consist of several discontinuous regions. **Region** elements are marked with <img src="https://mintcdn.com/abbyy/lqYknuOmCa79141v/images/flexi-capture/fls/el_area.gif?s=17ed1bb1ed39c31646ada9626a1ffe21" alt="Region element icon" style={{display:"inline-block",verticalAlign:"middle",margin:0}} width="15" height="15" data-path="images/flexi-capture/fls/el_area.gif" /> in the tree.

Use this element to compute regions regardless of the objects they contain.
