# Editing a Text Element

> Set text content, font, color, word wrap, alignment, orientation, and background for a Text element in the FormDesigner Element Properties window.

For each **text** element the following properties are specified: size and position of the element, text, [font](/flexi-capture/form-designer/element-text-edit#font), text color, word wrap, horizontal and vertical alignment, orientation, and the color of element's background.

You can edit the text of an element directly in the field of the element. To enable the text editing mode, right-click the element or select **Text →** Edit Text on the shortcut menu. Then use the hot keys for editing.

You can change the properties of the **text** element in the Element Properties window located in the bottom right corner of the [main window](/flexi-capture/form-designer/main-program-window). The Element Properties window is displayed only if **View →** Element Properties is selected on the main menu.

## Element

**Type** — Text

**ID** — A unique identifier of the element.

## Position and size

**Left** — Sets the distance between the left edge of the form and the element.

**Top** — Sets the distance between the top edge of the form and the element.

**Width** — Sets the width of the **text** element.

**Height** — Sets the height of the **text** element.

## Text

**Text** — Shows the text of the element.

  To edit the text of the element, click Edit Text on the shortcut menu of the **Text** element. The text can be edited directly in the field of the element.

**Font** — The font used for the text within the element. To change the font, its size and style (italic, bold, underline, etc.) click the Change ... button and in the [Font](/flexi-capture/form-designer/font-settings) dialog box that appears, select the required font, font size and style.

**Color** — Selects a text color from the drop-down list for dropout forms or from the palette for color forms.

**Word wrap** — Wraps the lines of the text without breaking words.

## Alignment

**Horizontal** — Aligns the text within the element horizontally:

* **Center** — Centers the text horizontally.
* **Left** — Aligns the text to the left edge of the element.
* **Right** — Aligns the text to the right edge of the element.

**Vertical** — Aligns the text within the element vertically:

* **Bottom** — Aligns the text to the bottom edge of the element.
* **Center** — Centers the text vertically.
* **Top** — Aligns the text to the top edge of the element.

**Orientation** — Sets the orientation of the text.

* **Normal (horizontal)** — The text will be placed horizontally, left to right.
* **Vertical (top-to-bottom)** — The text will be placed vertically, top to bottom.
* **Vertical (bottom-to-top)** — The text will be placed vertically, bottom to top.

## Background

**Same as form background** — Makes the background of the Text the same color as the background of the form.

**Other** — Selects a text background color from the drop-down list for dropout forms or from the palette for color forms.
