# Installing ABBYY FlexiCapture

> Install ABBYY FlexiCapture step by step, covering server and station setup for distributed systems and the full standalone installation procedure.

Before installing ABBYY FlexiCapture, we recommend closing all other applications (for example, Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Word).

  The setup program copies temporary files into the folder defined by the `%temp%` environment variable. If you encounter installation problems, make sure that this folder is accessible and has enough space to store the temporary files.

      <Step title="Insert the installation media">
        Place the ABBYY FlexiCapture CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Run the setup program">
        On the **Autorun** menu, select **Local installation** and follow the instructions of the setup program. If Autorun is disabled on your computer, double-click the `setup.exe` file located on the CD-ROM.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Select the setup language">
        Select a setup language (either English or Russian). The setup program compares the locale of your system with the selected language. If the languages are incompatible, a warning message is displayed.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Pass the system checks">
        The setup program checks the version of your operating system and whether you have administrative privileges. If the operating system is not supported or you do not have administrative privileges, a warning message is displayed and the setup program is terminated.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Accept the license agreement">
        If all the checks pass, the end-user license agreement is displayed. Read it carefully; if you agree with the terms, select the corresponding option and click **Next**.

      <Step title="Enter your information">
        A dialog box opens in which to enter some information about yourself. Enter the required information and continue with the installation.

      <Step title="Select the installation mode">
        Select one of the available installation modes:

        * **Administrator Station** — The program is installed in its entirety. You can switch between Administrator and Operator modes and use FormDesigner and FlexiLayout Studio.
        * **Operator Station** — Only the Operator Station is installed. The Administrator Station, FormDesigner, and FlexiLayout Studio are not installed.

        You can also install both the Administrator Station and the Operator Station on the same computer.

      <Step title="Select the destination folder">
        Select a destination folder. By default, the program is installed under `<disk name>:\Program Files\ABBYY FlexiCapture`. If there is not enough space on the selected hard disk, a window shows your hard disks, the available free space, and the space required by the installation. Select a disk with sufficient free space and continue with the installation.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Complete the installation">
        The program files are copied onto your computer. Once the installation is finished, the setup program displays a message saying that the application has been successfully installed.

      <Step title="Activate your license">
        FlexiCapture License Manager launches automatically so that you can activate your copy of the application. Enter your serial number and activate the application.
