# Capturing additional invoice fields

> Capture invoice fields beyond the default set in ABBYY FlexiCapture for Invoices by enabling predefined fields, training, or custom FlexiLayouts.

By default, FlexiCapture for Invoices only captures a specific set of fields (referred to as "default fields"). For more information, see [Captured fields](/flexi-capture/invoice-reader/ir-extractable-fields).

## Ways to capture additional fields

There are several ways to extract additional fields:

* Enable the extraction of additional predefined fields in the Document Definition.
* Train the program to extract arbitrary fields from invoices from every vendor.
* Create a FlexiLayout for extracting arbitrary fields from invoices from every vendor, or on any invoice regardless of vendor.

| Default fields                                                          | These are the major invoice fields, such as the invoice number, date, vendor, and receiving business unit. For more information, see [Captured fields](/flexi-capture/invoice-reader/ir-extractable-fields). Capturing data from the main fields cannot be disabled, but these fields can be hidden. Hidden fields are not visible to Operators during verification. |
| [Additional fields](/flexi-capture/invoice-reader/ir-additional-fields) | These are typical invoice fields, such as PO number and line items. These fields are not extracted by default, but may be enabled by users.                                                                                                                                                                                                                          |
| [Custom fields](/flexi-capture/invoice-reader/ir-custom-fields)         | FlexiCapture for Invoices does not include descriptions of some unusual invoice fields. You can set up the program to extract these fields.                                                                                                                                                                                                                          |
