# Batch types

> Batch types in the ABBYY Scanning Station bundle scanning, image processing, and export settings, and can be exported to XML for reuse on other stations.

A **batch type** is a collection of settings that determine how images in batches of that type are scanned, processed, and exported.

If the Administrator creates multiple batch types, Operators can choose which type to use when scanning a batch. If specific settings are not needed for multiple batches, Operators can use the **Unsorted** batch type to process images with the default settings.

## Export and import batch types

You can create, change, or delete batch types. You can also export batch types to an XML file and pass them on to other users. To use a batch type created by someone else, import it into your application first.

Exporting batch types to XML lets you apply the same settings on multiple Scanning Stations. This simplifies administration when you do not want Operators to change image processing settings, or when output files must meet specific quality and size standards.

To load batch types on a Scanning Station, specify the path to the settings XML file.
