# Scanner Settings dialog box

> Scanner Settings dialog box in ABBYY Scanning Station sets resolution, color mode, brightness, paper size, and ADF or duplex multi-page scanning options.

In the **Scanner Settings** dialog box, you can set up your scanner if you selected the ABBYY Scanning Station scanner interface.

## Set up the scanner

    Set the scanner, paper, and multi-page scanning options.

  <Step title="Preview the page">
    To scan and preview a page, click **Preview**. When the scanning process ends, the image of the scanned page appears in the window above the **Preview** button. Adjust the selected values, if required.

  <Step title="Return to the scanner profile">
    Click **Close** to return to the scanner profile properties.

  The **Preview** feature is not available on ISIS scanners.

## Scanner settings

| **Option**        | **Description**                                                                                                                                                |
| ----------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Resolution**    | Sets the resolution of scanned images. Select higher resolutions for texts printed in small fonts.                                                             |
| **Color mode**    | Selects a color mode for scanning images. Gray mode is best for OCR.                                                                                           |
| **Compression**   | Selects compression for scanned images.                                                                                                                        |
| **Rotation**      | Rotates images.                                                                                                                                                |
| **Color dropout** | Removes a specific color from scanned images. Select **Red**, **Green**, **Blue**, or **None** from the drop-down list. Selecting **None** retains all colors. |
| **Brightness**    | Selects between automatic and manual brightness adjustment. To change the brightness, move the slider below the drop-down list.                                |

## Paper settings

| **Option**     | **Description**                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    |
| -------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Paper size** | Selects the paper size. **Note:** If none of the suggested paper sizes suits your needs, create a custom paper size: select **Custom...** from the list and, in the **Custom Paper Size** dialog box, specify the required paper height and width. |

## Multi-page scanning

| **Option**                              | **Description**                                                                          |
| --------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Use automatic document feeder (ADF)** | Select this option if you are using an ADF-equipped scanner.                             |
| **Duplex scanning**                     | Select this option for duplex scanning.                                                  |
| **Pause for N seconds after each page** | Select this option to pause scanning after each page. Type the time interval in seconds. |
