# Work with documents, batches, and pages

> Manage batches, documents, and pages in the Scanning Station: create and rename them, assign document types, separate documents, and move or delete pages.

Images of scanned documents are placed in batches. A batch typically contains images of documents scanned in one go, and it can contain both documents and separate page images. When you first launch the Scanning Station, it creates an empty batch with the default name.

The Scanning Station can create batches and documents automatically during scanning.

Set up automatic separation and naming rules in one of these places:

* The **Batch Options** tab of the [Options](/flexi-capture/scanning-station/interface/options) dialog box.
* For a specific batch type, the [Batch Type Wizard](/flexi-capture/scanning-station/shared/interface/batch-type-wizard) when you create the batch type, or the **Batch Options** tab of the [Batch Type Properties](/flexi-capture/scanning-station/shared/interface/batch-type-properties) dialog box afterward.
