# Use timeouts to prevent processing delays

> Prevent batch processing delays in ABBYY FlexiCapture with timeouts that close inactive sessions and return stalled or postponed tasks to the general queue.

Sometimes, delays may occur when processing document batches. Possible situations include:

* An operator opened a task a long time ago but has not yet started working on it.
* An operator has too many tasks assigned to them.
* An operator postponed a task a long time ago and has not yet resumed work on the task.
* A station closed unexpectedly or malfunctioned, causing the task to hang.

All this may delay the processing of the entire batch or result in a failure to meet the processing targets specified in your [SLA](/flexi-capture/project-settings/sla-settings).

To prevent such delays in processing, you can specify timeouts for inactive [sessions](/flexi-capture/web-stations/monitoring-console/mmc-monitoring-sessions). When a session times out, it will be closed and its tasks will be returned to the general [queue](/flexi-capture/operator-work/queues-operator-work).

You can specify timeouts for:

* [Inactive sessions on local or remote stations](/flexi-capture/timeouts-sessions#localremote) and on [web stations](/flexi-capture/timeouts-sessions#web)
* [Postponed tasks](/flexi-capture/timeouts-tasks#postponed), [postponed rescanning tasks](/flexi-capture/timeouts-tasks#postponedrescanning), and [tasks assigned to specific operators](/flexi-capture/timeouts-tasks#assignedtooperator)
