# Batch type properties

> Batch Type Settings on FlexiCapture web stations: configure scanning, naming schemes, document creation, registration parameters, and sending options.

<Info>
  This functionality is available only to an Administrator.
</Info>

## About the Batch Type Settings dialog box

The **Batch Type Settings** dialog box shows the settings of the selected batch type, divided into groups on separate tabs.

### Web Scanning Station

The dialog box shows the batch type settings that an Administrator specified.

### Web Capture Station

Batch types are created in the Project Setup Station. You can create one or more batch types for each project; the Web Station only lets you adjust existing batch types, not create new ones.

Properties set in the Project Setup Station concern batch processing on the server. Properties set in the Web Capture Station concern scanning, document creation, and sending batches to the server.

The Administrator can edit batch type settings and save them on the server. Web Capture Operators then use these settings. Operators do not need to create or configure batch types themselves, which helps avoid errors.

## Open the Batch Type Settings dialog box

On the Web Capture Station, to edit a batch type's settings, select it in the **Batch Type** field in the **Batches** view and click the <img src="https://mintcdn.com/abbyy/IFr-A2MDVJd80FDs/images/flexi-capture/EditBatchType.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=IFr-A2MDVJd80FDs&q=85&s=41f838ac8ae7c88389a86901d6d97228" alt="Batch Type Settings button" style={{display:"inline-block",verticalAlign:"middle",margin:0}} width="16" height="16" data-path="images/flexi-capture/EditBatchType.png" /> **Batch Type Settings** button. The dialog box opens.

## Controls on every tab

On the Web Capture Station, each tab of the **Batch Type Settings** dialog box has the following controls:

* **Return to Defaults** – Resets all modified settings to their default values.
* **Forbid changes by operator** – When this field is filled in, Operators cannot modify the batch properties on this tab. To let Operators change these properties, clear the field.

## Scanning settings

The **Scanning** tab configures scanning settings for pages of this batch type. Its interface works like the **Scanning Options** dialog box. For more information, see [Scanning options](/flexi-capture/web-stations/scan-properties).

## Batch naming and priority

The **Batch** tab specifies batch parameters such as priority and the naming scheme for batches of this type.

You can use parameters when creating the naming scheme. These parameters are replaced with actual values during project creation. The parameters are the time and/or date the batch is created, the batch type, and the batch number. To add a tag, use the buttons under the field.

You can also use the values of batch registration parameters (created or imported from the server on the **Parameters** tab) for automatic batch naming.

## Document naming and creation

The **Document** tab specifies a document naming scheme, in the same way as the batch naming scheme, and selects an automatic document creation algorithm.

You can use parameters when creating the naming scheme. These parameters are replaced with actual values during project creation. The parameters are the barcode value, the document number in a batch, the date and/or time the document was created, and the batch name.

The **Create document** option selects how pages are automatically distributed among documents when you add them to a batch.

<Info>
  The automatic document creation algorithm applies to new batches created after the batch type settings are saved. It does not apply to batches that already exist.
</Info>

An Operator can select one of the following document creation algorithms:

* **Never**. Pages are not distributed among documents when added to the batch.
* **One for all pages**. All pages added during one scanning session or import from image files are placed in one document.
* **In a certain number of pages**. Use this method when scanned documents contain the same number of pages. When you select this value, a field appears where you specify the number of pages in each document.
* **If pages with barcodes are found**. Use this method when the first page of each document contains a barcode, or when each document is preceded by a page with a barcode. You can specify the type of barcode used (or have it detected automatically) and, if necessary, its value (when the same barcode is used for document separation). If barcode pages are not part of the document and are used only for separation, they can be deleted automatically (fill in the corresponding field).
* **If blank pages are found**. Use this method when documents in the batch are separated by blank pages. Blank separator pages can be deleted automatically, the same way as separator pages with barcodes. To configure the criteria for detecting blank pages, fill in the corresponding fields.
* **For every image file**. Use this method when all batch pages represent separate documents.

## Registration parameters

The **Parameters** tab specifies registration parameters for batches of the created type and for documents in these batches.

To add and modify registration parameters for batches or documents, use the separate **Batch Reg Parameters** and **Documents Registration Parameters** tables.

### Add a registration parameter

<Steps>
  <Step title="Add the parameter">
    Click <img src="https://mintcdn.com/abbyy/mpS3pcxC_lkohQUS/images/flexi-capture/Login_iconPlus.png?fit=max&auto=format&n=mpS3pcxC_lkohQUS&q=85&s=c52a6fd9032847c255302332ea0bae3b" alt="Add value button" style={{display:"inline-block",verticalAlign:"middle",margin:0}} width="19" height="20" data-path="images/flexi-capture/Login_iconPlus.png" /> **Add value**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the name and type">
    Specify the parameter's name and type. The type can be text or a value from a list.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Specify type-specific details">
    Depending on the selected type, specify additional information:

    * **Text**: a default value, in which tags can be used. Tags are substituted with the account name of the Operator and/or station and the date and/or time the batch (or document) was created.
    * **Value from a list**: a set of possible values and their order. When creating the list, you can use tags the same way as for the default value of a text parameter.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set access and validation options">
    For each parameter, you can also specify:

    * **Read-only** – when filled in, the value cannot be modified.
    * **Required** – when filled in, the batch cannot be sent to recognition until the parameter value is specified.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Registration parameter names and values can be used as a filter for the task queue on the Web Verification Station. For more information, see [Task queues](/flexi-capture/web-stations/verification/queues).
</Note>

## Batch sending and retries

The **Sending** tab controls how scanned batches are sent to the server.

Scanned document images of a quality suitable for recognition take up a lot of space. During continuous operation, the number of sent documents can grow large enough to occupy significant disk space. To avoid this, you can automatically delete batches after they are sent to the server. To do this, fill in the corresponding field.

By default, batches are sent as soon as you click the **Send** button. In some situations this is inconvenient, for example, when the channel is heavily loaded during the daytime. If necessary, you can specify the time interval during which batches are sent to the server. To do this, fill in the **Sending time** field and specify an interval in the **from** and **till** fields.

<Note>
  Batches are sent only while you are logged on to the station. If sending runs at night, leave your computer on and do not end the working session with the **Log out** button.
</Note>

If the connection to the server drops while a batch is being sent, the station can retry the upload. In this case the documents are placed in the same batch, not a new one. To use this option, fill in the **Repeat failed batch upload** field, specify the interval in minutes in the **Minutes between uploads** field, and set the number of attempts in the corresponding field.
