# Par Element

> The par element in Vantage OCR XML output describes a paragraph of recognized text: line children plus alignment, indents, drop-cap, and spacing attributes.

A paragraph of a recognized text. Contains [line](/vantage/developer/output/xml/line-element) elements.

The tag can have the following attributes:

| Property            | Data type | Description                                                                                                  |
| :------------------ | :-------- | :----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `dropCapCharsCount` | `integer` | The number of drop caps in the paragraph. The default value is 0.                                            |
| `dropCap-l`         | `integer` | The left coordinate of the drop cap rectangle.                                                               |
| `dropCap-t`         | `integer` | The top coordinate of the drop cap rectangle.                                                                |
| `dropCap-r`         | `integer` | The right coordinate of the drop cap rectangle.                                                              |
| `dropCap-b`         | `integer` | The bottom coordinate of the drop cap rectangle.                                                             |
| `align`             | `string`  | The paragraph alignment. Possible values: `Left`, `Center`, `Right`, `Justified`. The default value is Left. |
| `leftIndent`        | `integer` | The left paragraph indent. The default value is 0.                                                           |
| `rightIndent`       | `integer` | The right paragraph indent. The default value is 0.                                                          |
| `startIndent`       | `integer` | The indent of the first line of the paragraph. The default value is 0.                                       |
| `lineSpacing`       | `integer` | The spacing between lines. The default value is 0.                                                           |
