Document types classify the documents in a batch. Assign types so you can preserve them when exporting to a file store, check that a batch contains the expected documents before export, or group registration parameters by document kind. For example, you might assign types so Scanning Station can confirm immediately after scanning that a batch contains exactly the documents you expected — say, one each of “Passport”, “Birth Certificate”, and “Proof of Address.” Document types are configured on the Document Types tab of the Batch Type Properties dialog box. Each type can have its own set of registration parameters.

Create and manage document types

Use the buttons to the right of the Document Types list:
  • Add… — adds a new top-level document type.
  • Add Child… — adds a child (sub-type) beneath the selected document type.
  • Delete — removes the selected type along with its registration parameters.
For guidance on assigning a type to a document, see Specify a document type.
Document types and their registration parameters are frozen into a batch when the batch is created. Changes to the batch type’s document types after that don’t affect existing batches.

Moving documents between batch types

  • If the destination batch type has a document type with the same name, the moved document’s registration parameters are updated to match that type.
  • If the document moves between batches of the same type, its registration parameters are preserved as-is.

Document count check

If you select Check document types and count on the Document Types tab, Scanning Station verifies that a batch contains the required number of documents of each type before sending. A batch that fails the check is blocked from export and shows an error.
To mark a document type as optional (so it doesn’t affect the check), set its minimum count to 0 or leave the field empty.
