# Empty Page Detection settings dialog box

> Thresholds that determine when a blank page is treated as empty for document separation.

Use this dialog box to configure how Scanning Station detects empty pages when separating documents by blank pages.

## How to open

On the **Batch Options** tab of the [Batch Type Properties](/vantage/documentation/scanning-station/interface/batch-type-properties-dbox) dialog box (or when creating a batch type with the [Batch Type Wizard](/vantage/documentation/scanning-station/interface/batch-type-wizard)), select **For images separated by...** with **Blank pages** as the separator and click **Options...**.

## Options

| Option                              | Description                                                                                                                                                   |
| :---------------------------------- | :------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Crop image borders by (mm)**      | Automatically crop the page (top, bottom, left, right — in millimeters) before the emptiness check. The check runs on the cropped result.                     |
| **Maximum number of black squares** | Pages with at most this many black squares (special form-design elements) are treated as empty.                                                               |
| **Maximum number of text objects**  | Pages with at most this many text objects are treated as empty. Text objects include any separate text fragments — useful for pages with headers and footers. |
| **Maximum number of barcodes**      | Pages with at most this many barcodes are treated as empty.                                                                                                   |
| **Maximum percentage of blackness** | Pages with at most this percentage of black pixels are treated as empty. The ratio is calculated after image binarization.                                    |
