After the preparation steps, install the ABBYY FlexiCapture servers. On the Autorun menu, click Distributed Installation → Install Servers and follow the setup wizard.
In enterprise environments, keep the Processing Station off the computers running the ABBYY FlexiCapture servers. Sharing a machine degrades server performance.
By default, all of the servers are installed on one computer:
  • Processing Server – Controls the Processing Stations.
  • Licensing Server – Stores and manages licenses.
  • Application Server – Controls the remaining components, including the Web stations. Web stations let Operators connect to the server and process documents in a browser, with no ABBYY FlexiCapture installed on their own machines.
You can also install the ABBYY FlexiCapture servers on different computers. In the Setup Type dialog box, clear the boxes next to the servers you do not want on this computer. Installing servers across computers has two requirements:
  • Specify the Licensing Server address as server, without a leading \\ or https://. You can also use its IP address.
  • Specify the Application Server address as https://<ApplicationServer>, where <ApplicationServer> is the computer running the Application Server.
To use remote stations over the Internet, the Application Server must be accessible over the Internet.

Install the Application Server and web stations on different computers

By default, the Application Server and the web stations are installed on the same computer. You can install the Application Server and web stations on different computers if required. For example, you might install the Application Server in a DMZ network while exposing the web stations to an external network. The setup program does not allow installing only the Application Server or only the web stations. Use the following workaround:
  1. Install both the Application Server and the web stations on computer M1 and on computer M2.
  2. Redirect the web stations installed on M1 to the Application Server installed on M2.
The Administration and Monitoring Console cannot be separated from the Application Server, so it stays wherever the Application Server is installed. To redirect the web stations to the Application Server, edit the web.config file of each web station on computer M1. Put the name of computer M2 in the value parameter.
The folders containing the web.config file for each web station are located at <IIS Root Directory>\FlexiCapture12\<Station Name>, where the default IIS root directory is C:\inetpub\wwwroot. For example: For computers separated by a firewall, allow the service that matches your protocol.
