Adding images
There are three commands that can be used to add images into a batch:- Add Images… adds one or more images into the batch.

Add Images from Folder… adds all images from a specified folder into the batch.
- Import pages from FLS projects imports images from any FSP and FCP projects in the specified folder. Images will be imported from all the batches in the project.
- Add images from subfolders adds images from subfolders.
- Import Pages from FLS Project… imports pages from an existing FlexiLayout Studio project. If the project contains multiple batches, the user will be prompted to select batches from which images should be imported. When this command is used to import images, information about the classes or alternative layouts associated with the pages is retained. Any pre-processing results from the existing FlexiLayout Studio project will also be imported.
Image processing settings
You can specify image processing settings when adding images. In the Open Images dialog box, click the Image Preprocessing Settings button and in the dialog box that opens, select the required settings. Under Assemble to reference documents, you can specify how your reference document assembly should be created:- One document per file creates a separate document for each image file.
- Group by page count creates a document from the specified number of image files. For more information, see Reference assembly.
- Pre-recognize images on adding automatically recognizes an image immediately after it has been added.

General contains the general image processing settings:
- Rotate images by rotates an image in the specified direction (90° clockwise, 90° counterclockwise or 180°).
- Convert color and gray images to black-and-white automatically converts color images to black-and-white when they are added to a batch.
- Despeckle images clears noise from images. Despeckling can only be used on black-and-white images.
- Remove all color marks removes all color marks from images. This option can be used to remove stamps or signatures in colored ink, for example.
- Correct resolution of photos automatically selects the optimal resolution for photographs.
- Autocrop automatically searches for page boundaries on an image and crops the area containing relevant information. It also corrects skew and distortion.
- Reduce ISO noise removes digital noise from images.
- Whiten background cleans up image backgrounds.
- Use separators to correct skew
- Use black squares to correct skew
- Use text to correct skew
- Use image enhancement profile applies a previously created image enhancement profile. If there are photographs among the images that are being processed, you can apply enhancements designed specifically for photos. To do this, select the Use special profile for photos option and select an appropriate secondary profile.
- Auto (FlexiLayout Studio will choose between PDF text layer and OCR) automatically chooses the correct file processing option depending on the availability and quality of a text layer.
- Prefer PDF text layer if available uses the available PDF text layer.
- Use OCR only performs optical character recognition even there is a text layer available.
- Allow the use of LibreOffice® (supports LibreOffice 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, and 5)
- Allow the use of Microsoft® Office (supports Microsoft Office 2010, 2013, and 2016)
- Processing results may vary depending on which third party software is selected.
- If both options are selected, the program will select the most suitable office application automatically. The selected application will be indicated in the respective task log.
- If the Allow the use of Microsoft® Office option is selected:
- Your copy of Microsoft Office must be activated.
- You must run the program as an administrator (click the Authentication… button to open the authentication settings dialog box).
Specifying a reference alternative or class

When should I use a reference alternative or class?
We recommend using a reference alternative or class when dealing with a FlexiLayout or classifier that has multiple alternatives. This will insure that the FlexiLayout is applied correctly. Also, automatic selection of a reference alternative or class for imported images will decrease the workload of operators when dealing with large batches that contain images from different sources.

A reference alternative or class is created when images are imported from existing an FSP or FCP project (i.e. when you use the Import Pages from FLS Project… or Add Images from Folder… command on the File menu, the specified folder contains an FSP or FCP project, and the Import pages from FLS projects option is enabled).You can change the import settings in the Image Preprocessing Settings dialog box (click the Page Import Settings button in the Add Images from Folder… dialog box or click the Page Import Settings button in the Import Images from Project… dialog box). Note that the reference alternative or class creation settings you specify when adding images by clicking File → Add Images from Folder… will also apply when you add images by clicking File > Import Images from Project…) and vice versa.
Page import settings
You can set up the way images are imported from existing FlexiLayout Studio projects in the Page Import Settings dialog box. Options in the Batches group determine which batch the new images are added to.- Import all pages to current batch all images from all detected batches will be added to the current batch.
- Create new batches creates a new batch and adds images from all detected batches to the new batch.
- Use alternative/class of the same name if exist: if a reference alternative or class is found in the project from which images are being imported, and its name matches that of a reference alternative or class in the current project, a new reference alternative or class will not be created, and the existing reference alternative or class will be used.
- Always create new alternative/class: if a reference alternative or class is found in the project from which images are being imported, and its name matches that of a reference alternative or class in the current project, a new reference alternative or class will be created and a prefix will be added to its name. You can find the prefix settings in the New Alternative/Class name prefix option group (see below). Headers and footers from the old reference alternative (the one that was detected in the project from which images are being imported) will be imported to the newly created one. No other elements from the old reference alternative will be imported.
- Project name: the name of the new alternative is a combination of the name of the current project and the name of the reference alternative or class from the project from which images are being imported: <Project name><Original name of alternative or class>. So if the current project is named Halloween_Form, and the images from the old project have a reference alternative or class named Main_Group, a reference alternative named **Halloween_Form Main_Group** will be created when the images are imported.
- Custom prefix: the name of the new alternative is a combination of the custom prefix you specified and the name of the reference alternative or class from the project from which images are being imported: < Custom prefix ><Original name of alternative or class>. So if the current project is named Halloween_Form, the custom prefix you specified is My_Prefix, and the images from the old project have a reference alternative or class named Main_Group, a reference alternative named **My_Prefix Main_Group** will be created when the images are imported.
