Machine-readable forms are designed for automated data input, so that ABBYY FlexiCapture can distinguish the data to be captured from non-recognizable form elements such as field borders, text marking, backgrounds, and explanatory text. You can design the form in one of two ways:
  1. So that the field borders, background, and text marking disappear after scanning.
  2. So that the field borders, background, and text marking stand out clearly after scanning.
With the first approach, only the anchors, explanatory text, and entered data remain on the form after scanning. ABBYY FlexiCapture does not have to separate the data from the form elements, which makes recognition easier and more reliable. This approach uses dropout forms, black-and-white forms with raster backgrounds, black-and-white forms with raster borders, and black-and-white linear forms. With the second approach, the anchors, explanatory text, entered data, text marking, and field borders all remain on the form after scanning. ABBYY FlexiCapture looks for information surrounded by field borders and text marking, so recognition quality suffers if those elements are missing. This approach uses black-and-white linear forms.
