Options dialog box

To open the Options dialog box, select Options… on the Tools menu. Use it to change the appearance of the main application window and to specify export settings and layout properties for empty pages.

View tab

Sets the interface language and the appearance of the main window.

Setting	Description
Interface language	Sets the language for all program messages, dialog box titles, and menu items. Click OK and re-run ABBYY FormDesigner for the change to take effect. Defaults to the language selected during installation.

Grid

Setting	Description
Show grid	Displays the grid. Not checked by default.
Width	Sets the width of grid cells, in mm. Default: 2 mm.
Height	Sets the height of grid cells, in mm. Default: 2 mm.
Snap to grid	Snaps the top left corner of a newly created or moved element to the nearest grid node.

Colors

Setting	Description
Items	Changes the on-screen color of the margins, rulers, and edited-text background. Select an element in the Items pane, click the color rectangle underneath it, and choose a color in the Color dialog box.
Show ruler	Shows or hides the ruler.
Show margins	Shows or hides the form margins.

Text editor

Setting	Description
Tab width	Sets the number of spaces inserted in the text editor when you press the Tab key.

Export tab

Sets the formats used when exporting a form.

Setting	Description
Image storing format in xfd-file	Sets the format for the form image saved when exporting to an XFD file: EMF or TIFF.
Resolution of TIFF files	Sets the resolution for the TIFF files into which forms are exported.

Empty page layout properties tab

Sets the default layout applied when you create a new empty form.

Setting	Description
Style	Sets the style for empty pages: Gray drop-out form, Black and white form, Orange drop-out form, Red drop-out form, Green drop-out form, or Color form (printing is not recommended). Default: Black and white form.
Orientation	Sets the page orientation to Portrait or Landscape.
Default font	Selects the font and font size for empty pages.
Reset to default	Restores all empty page settings to their default values.

Paper size

Setting	Description
Size	Sets the paper size for empty pages: A3, A4, A5, Custom size, US Legal, or US Letter. Default: A4.
Width	Sets the page width, in mm. Default: 210 mm.
Height	Sets the page height, in mm. Default: 297 mm.

Margins

Setting	Description
Top	Sets the top margin, in mm. Default: 10 mm.
Bottom	Sets the bottom margin, in mm. Default: 10 mm.
Left	Sets the left margin, in mm. Default: 10 mm.
Right	Sets the right margin, in mm. Default: 10 mm.

Background

Setting	Description
Color	Sets the form background color from the drop-down list (dropout forms) or from the palette (color forms).
Size	Sets the area covered by the background color: Whole page (fills everything except the form elements) or Inside margins (fills the page but leaves the margins and form elements white).

The range of available colors depends on the type of your form. Color can be selected only for color and dropout forms. White is the default for black and white forms. The Size option is not available for black and white forms.
