Skip to main contentThe Technology Core is a set of technology-related workers for document processing, OCR, classification, data extraction, and other features. All skills in Vantage use specific versions of the Technology Core. The version number of the Technology Core used by a skill is displayed next to the skill version number after the skill is published. Each version of a skill can use only one version of the Technology Core, while different versions of a skill can use different versions of the Technology Core.
You can see the version of the Technology Core used by a particular version of a skill in the Version column in the Skill Versions dialog box:
New versions of the Technology Core may be introduced in future Vantage releases, bringing new technology features.
By default, new skills are created using the latest version of the Technology Core, which is currently v. 3.0. We do not recommend selecting an earlier version of the Technology Core when creating a new skill unless you have good reasons to do so. For example, all Document skills used within the same Process skill must have identical versions of the Technology Core. For this reason, you will need to select Technology Core v. 2.0 from the drop-down list when creating a new Document skill if your Process skill already contains Document skills based on Technology Core v. 2.0. Also note the following:
- You can always update your skills to the latest version of the Technology Core. We recommend always doing so.
- Technology Core v. 1.0 cannot be used to create new skills.
Updating the Technology Core
Note: Vantage v. 2.4 introduced the ability to update existing copies of skills and convert them into derived skills using the latest version of the Technology Core. In Vantage v. 2.5, this new feature is temporarily disabled. It will be made available again in a future Vantage release. Currently, you can create a derived skill from the corresponding skill that uses the latest version of the Technology Core. If you have already updated some copy of a skill and are satisfied with the performance of the resulting derived skill, you will be able to continue using the derived skill. If you are not satisfied with the results, roll back to the previous version of the Technology Core, as described in the section below.
When a new version of the Technology Core becomes available, skills in the tenant can be updated to use this new version.
When updating the Technology Core used by a skill, note the following:
- To update the Technology Core used by a Document skill, Classification skill, or OCR skill, you need to edit, train, and publish that skill.
- To update the Technology Core used by a Process skill, you must make sure that all the skills used in the Process skill flow have been updated to the same new version of the Technology Core.
- The Technology Core of a skill created in Advanced Designer can only be updated in Advanced Designer. For more information, see Upgrading to a new version of the Technology Core.
- Before publishing a skill with an updated Technology Core, check its extraction statistics. If the new version performs worse than the previous version, you may prefer not to publish the skill and use its previous version instead. To do this, go to the Skill Catalog, select the skill, and click Discard changes on the toolbar.
If a new version of the Technology Core becomes available for a skill, an arrow icon will appear next to the name and version number of that skill:
You can click this icon and update the skill, after which a new version of the skill will appear in the list. This new version will use the new version of the Technology Core.
You can also update the Technology Core of a skill in the skill settings by completing the following steps:
-
Open your skill for editing.
-
On the Skill Designer page, click the skill settings icon next to the name of the skill. In the dialog box that opens, select a Technology Core version from the drop-down list.
-
Save, train, and publish the skill.
After you complete the steps above, the new version of the skill with the new version of the Technology Core will appear in the list.
Reverting to a previous version of the Technology Core
To revert a skill to a previous version of the Technology Core, do one of the following:
- Open the previous version of the skill for editing and publish it again (the skill’s version number will change, but the previous version of the Technology Core will be restored), or
- Delete the current version of the skill (this will leave you with the previous version of the skill using a previous version of the Technology Core).
Importing Technology Core versions
When importing a skill with a Technology Core version that is not available in Vantage, the skill must be trained and published again. Otherwise, you will not be able to use the skill.
