The buttons on this toolbar perform the basic operations: scanning, stopping scanning, and exporting scanned documents.

| Scan Pages | Starts scanning with the last-used scanner source. To pick a different scanner, click the arrow next to the button and use Select and Scan. |
| Stop Scanning | Stops the scanning process. This button replaces the Scan button when scanning is in progress. |
| Send to Vantage | Exports the documents to ABBYY Vantage (hover the button to see the destination name). Click the arrow next to the button for two options: • Send to Vantage… — sends the batch immediately. • Export Options… — opens the Send to ABBYY Vantage dialog box to pick export options first. See Export batches. |
The buttons on this toolbar select a batch type, display its properties, and filter the Batches window by type.

| Selected Batch Type (drop-down list) | Selects a batch type and makes it current. The default batch type is Unsorted. |
| Batch Type Properties | Opens the Batch Type Properties dialog box, where you can view and edit the settings of the selected batch type. Unavailable for Unsorted batches — to view default options, choose Tools > Options… |
| Show Batches of Selected Type | Displays only the batches of the current type in the Batches window. |
This toolbar is hidden if there are no user-created batch types.
The buttons on this toolbar make changes to the structure of a batch.

| Create New Batch | Creates a new batch of the current type. The name follows the batch naming rule on the batch type. See Create a new batch and Rename a batch or document. |
| Create New Document | Creates a new document in the current batch from the selected pages. The name follows the document naming rule on the batch type. See Create a document. |
| Disassemble Document | Disassembles a document: the pages return to the current batch and the document is deleted. |
| Delete | Deletes the selected items. |
The buttons on this toolbar allow you to edit images.
