Images of scanned documents are stored in batches. A batch typically holds all images from a single scanning session, and can contain both documents (groups of pages) and standalone pages. When you first launch Scanning Station, an empty batch with a default name is created for you. Batches and documents can also be created automatically during scanning. To configure automatic separation and naming rules:

Create

Create an empty batch

For the full workflow (picking a batch type, entering registration parameters, etc.), see Create a new batch. To quickly create an empty batch from the main window, in the Batches window do one of the following:
  • Click New Batch on the toolbar.
  • Right-click and select New Batch from the shortcut menu.
  • Press Ctrl+N.

Create a document

In the Batches window or the Image window, select the pages you want to assemble into a document, then do one of the following:
  • Click Create Document on the Batches toolbar.
  • Right-click and select Create Document.
  • Press Ctrl+Shift+C.
Nested documents aren’t supported. If you run Create Document on pages that already belong to a document, the new document is created at the same level as the existing one.

Automatically separate a batch into documents after scanning

Sorting images into documents by hand is time-consuming. Scanning Station can separate documents for you based on rules in the batch type.
Don’t enable automatic document separation if your setup already separates batches into documents in Vantage (for example, via a Skill). Running both will produce unexpected results.
To enable automatic separation:
  1. Choose Tools > Options…. On the Batch Options tab, select the document separation options you want.
  2. In the Batches window, select the batch to separate.
  3. Choose Edit > Separate Documents.

Organize

Rename a batch or document

  1. Select the batch or document in the Batches window.
  2. Click the selected name again, or press F2.
  3. Type a new name.

Move a page

In the Batches window or the Image window, drag the page to the destination document or batch. You can also use Cut, Copy, and Paste from the Edit menu.

Specify a document type

There are three ways to set a document type during batch assembly:
  • From the Batches window:
    1. Open the document-type list by pressing F2, clicking the document name, or right-clicking the document and selecting Change Document Type.
    2. Click the desired type.
Enable View > Show Document Types instead of Names to see type labels directly in the Batches window.
  • From the Document Properties dialog box: click the Registration Parameters tab and pick a type from the Type drop-down list.
  • From the Registration Parameters window: click the Document tab and pick a type from the Document type drop-down list.

Remove

Disassemble a document

In the Batches window or the Image window, select the document. Then do one of the following:
  • Click Disassemble on the Batches toolbar.
  • Right-click and select Disassemble Document.
  • Press Ctrl+Alt+D.
The pages move back to the active batch, and the original document is deleted.

Delete a batch, document, or page

In the Batches window or the Image window, select the items, then do one of the following:
  • Click Delete on the Batches toolbar.
  • Right-click and select Delete.
  • Press Del.
