| Property | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | The field name, assigned automatically from the explanatory text closest to the field. To change it, see Change a field name. |
| Caption | The caption of the field in the data form. |
| Export field value | Available for all fields; determines whether the field is exported. Selected by default. Clear it if, for example, the field value is used only to calculate another field’s value. For more information, see Rule validation. |
| Read-only | Available for Text, Barcode, Checkmark, and Checkmark Group fields. Prevents changes to the field value. Useful for fields whose value is calculated automatically. For more information, see Rule validation. |
| Show on verification | Available for all fields; determines whether the field appears in the data form. Selected by default. |
| Index field | Available for Text and Barcode fields. Lets documents be sorted and retrieved by the field value. |
| Show field in preview pane | Available for Text, Barcode, Checkmark, Service Field, and Checkmark Group fields. Shows the field value in the preview pane when the group it belongs to is collapsed. |
| Text segment | Automatically locks the field region so you can select other regions inside it, for example to extract a full address into one field and the country within it into another. Segment regions can overlap partially or completely. A locked region cannot be moved, but you can adjust its borders by double-clicking it. You can also lock a region by right-clicking it. Becomes available when Can have region is selected. |
| Can have region | Available for all field types except Service Field. Indicates that the field or group can have a region. Child elements of a group are not bound to the group region and can be located anywhere on the page. |
| Allow multiple regions | Becomes available when Can have region is selected. Lets you specify multiple regions for a field; data from the regions is recorded in the order it appears on the image. Useful when a field is split across two pages. |
| Should be matched | Becomes available when Can have region is selected. Highlights fields with undetected regions during verification. Unmatched fields are also selectable in Go to Next Unmatched Field on Matching mode. |
| Index field region | Becomes available when Index field is selected. Indexes the field region so it is displayed even when the document is closed, provided the document is a member of a document set. Used to display a link to an existing field together with its region. |
| Can be repeated | Available for Text, Barcode, Picture, and Field Group fields. Indicates that the field or group can repeat on a form. Selected automatically when a field instance is created. Clearing it for a field with multiple instances deletes all the instances from the form. |
| Has table layout | Becomes available for recurring groups when Can have region is selected. Lets you work with recurring groups like tables, drawing an entire table with regions and separators instead of individual cells. Clear it to mark only cell regions (the Reanalyze Line Items Below command is then unavailable). It does not affect how the group is displayed in the data form; to change that, right-click the group’s green frame in the data form editor and select Show as Table. For more information, see Verification of line items. |
| Use full-text recognition for quick fill-out | Becomes available when Can have region is selected. Changes how a field is recognized when an operator draws or adjusts its region: when selected, the operator is prompted to select the value from full-text OCR (faster); otherwise the field is recognized anew (potentially more reliable). Full-text OCR uses the OCR settings on the Recognition tab of the Document Definition properties; individual fields use the settings on the Recognition tab of the field properties. If the capture quality is poor, right-click the field and click Recognize to recognize it again using the field’s Recognition-tab settings. |
| Comment | A comment for the field. |
To the right of each field name, an icon indicates the field type.
