One-time editing actions may be performed by means of special tools located above the Image window.

Autocrop an image

Autocrop is designed for automatically cropping out the borders of a documents. To autocrop an image, follow these steps:
  1. In the image window, select the image to autocrop.
  2. Click the Autocrop button or click Autocrop on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.

Crop an image

Unlike Autocrop, this tool is designed for manual cropping, including cropping multiple rectangles on one image. To crop an image, follow these steps:
  1. In the image window, select the image to crop.
  2. Click the Crop button or click Crop on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.
  3. Select an area on the image that you want to crop. A frame will appear around the selected area. You can change the color of the frame in the Options dialog box (click Tools > Options… > General > Crop line color).
    • Repeat this operation if you need to select multiple areas.
    • To draw an area inside another area, hold down the Ctrl key while drawing.
  4. To deselect an area, hold down the Shift key and click anywhere inside the area or on the area border.
  5. The image will be cropped when you press Enter or when you click anywhere outside the page.
  6. Each selected are will saved as a separate page.

Split an image

If an image contains two or more scanned pages, you can split them and save each fragment as a separate page. To do this, select a page in the image window and click the Split button or click Split on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.
  1. By default, an image is split into two fragments horizontally.
  2. To split an image vertically, hold down the Shift before when splitting the image.
  3. To split an image into four fragments, hold down the Ctrl key when splitting the image.

Redact sensitive information from an image

The redaction tool is used to permanently hide sensitive information on a document. To redact text, follow these steps:
  1. In the image window, select the page on which sensitive information is to be obliterated.
  2. Click the Redact button or click Redact on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.
  3. Place the mouse pointer in a corner of the area you wish to redact and, holding down the left mouse button, drag the frame diagonally. The text in the selected area will be obliterated by a color rectangle. You can select the color of this rectangle in the Options dialog box (click Tools > Options… > General > Redaction Color).

Rotate an image

The standard orientation of a page is the one where the text lines are horizontal and the text should be read top to bottom. If the orientation of a page is different from the standard, you should rotate the page. In the image window, select the pages to rotate and then:
  • To rotate the images 90° clockwise, click the Rotate Right button or click Rotate 90° Clockwise on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.
  • To rotate the images 90° counter-clockwise, click the Rotate Left button or click Rotate 90° Counterclockwise on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.
  • To rotate the images 180°, click the Rotate 180 button or click Rotate 180° on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.

Flip an image

In the image window, select the pages to flip and then:
  • To flip the images along the vertical axis, click the Flip Horizontally button or click Flip Horizontally on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.
  • To flip the images along the horizontal axis, click the Flip Vertically button or click Flip Vertically on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.

Invert image colors

If an image contains light text against a dark background, you should invert the image colors to facilitate OCR. In the image window, select the pages to invert and click the Invert button or click Invert on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.

Remove ISO noise

Remove ISO Noise tool is designed to remove noise from an image.
  1. In the image window or the Batches window, select the pages you need to remove noise from.
  2. Click the Remove ISO Noise button or click Remove ISO Noise on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.

Remove motion blur

Remove Motion Blur tool is designed to remove blur that occurs when moving a document or a camera/scanner.
  1. Select the pages in the image window or the Batches window.
  2. Click the Remove Motion Blur button or click Remove Motion Blur on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.

Whiten background

Whiten Background tool is designed to whiten the background of an image.
  1. Select the pages in the image window or the Batches window.
  2. Click the Whiten Background button or click Whiten Background on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.

Equalize brightness

Equalize Brightness tool is designed to equalize brightness of an image.
  1. Select the pages in the image window or the Batches window.
  2. Click the Equalize Brightness button or click Equalize Brightness on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.

Remove color marks

Remove Color Marks tool is designed to remove color marks from an image.
  1. Select the pages in the image window or the Batches window.
  2. Click the Remove Color Marks button or click Remove Color Marks on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.
  3. In the Remove Color Marks dialog box that will open:
    a. Click OK to delete all color marks.
    b. If you need to delete only some of the color marks, select Remove marks of specified colors only and mark the appropriate colors.
Note: This tool is only available for color images.

Deskew

Deskew tool is designed to correct image skew. To correct image skew, follow these steps:
  1. Select the pages in the image window or the Batches window.
  2. Click the Deskew button or click Deskew on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.
Note: The image deskewing functionality is embedded into the Autocrop tool (see above). Therefore, if you have already selected the Autocrop tool, this option may be left disabled.

Remove geometrical distortions

Remove Geometrical Distortions tool is designed to remove geometrical distortions. To remove geometrical distortions, follow these steps:
  1. Select the pages in the image window or the Batches window.
  2. Click the Remove Geometrical Distortions button or click Remove Geometrical Distortions on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.

Remove scanner shadow

Remove Scanner Shadow tool is designed to remove scanner shadow from an image. To remove scanner shadow from an image, follow these steps:
  1. Select the pages in the image window or the Batches window.
  2. Click the Remove Scanner Shadow button or click Remove Scanner Shadow on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.

Adjust brightness and contrast

Adjust Brightness and Contrast tool is designed to manually configure brightness and contrast of an image. To adjust brightness and contrast, follow these steps:
  1. Select the pages in the image window or the Batches window.
  2. Click the Brightness and Contrast button or click Adjust Brightness and Contrast on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.
  3. In the Brightness and Contrast dialog box that will open, set up the brightness and contrast levels. If the Preview option is selected, you will be able to preview the changes to the image before applying the new brightness and contrast levels.
Note: If you have selected several images in step 1, the new brightness and contrast levels will be applied to all selected images. To set up brightness and contrast levels individually for each image, repeat steps 1 to 3 for each page separately.

Autoadjust levels

Autoadjust Levels tool is designed to automatically correct color levels of the image in order to improve readability.
  1. Select the pages in the image window or the Batches window.
  2. Click the Autoadjust Levels button or click Autoadjust Levels on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.

Black and white

Black and White tool is designed to convert color and gray images into black and white.
  1. Select the pages in the image window or the Batches window.
  2. Click the Black and White button or click Black and White on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.

Despeckle

Despeckle tool is designed to remove small extra elements from an image.
Note: This option is applicable only to black and white images.
To remove small extra elements from an image, follow these steps:
  1. Select the pages in the image window or the Batches window.
  2. Click the Despeckle button or click Despeckle on the Page menu in the main window or on the shortcut menu.
Important! If source text in images is very light or it includes thin type and if the size of elements to be despeckled is set by a user, it is necessary to make sure that significant elements like punctuation marks and thin letter elements are not deleted when the Despeckle function is enabled.

Change the resolution of an image

To change the resolution of an image, follow these steps:
  1. In the image window or the Batches window, select the pages you need to change the resolution in.
  2. Click the Change Resolution button or click Change Resolution… on the Page menu in the main window of the program or on the shortcut menu.
  3. In the Set Resolution dialog box, specify the required definition.
