ABBYY Vantage includes the following types of skills:
  1. Document skills help you extract field values from structured and semistructured documents of a single type. Documents of the same type have the same set of fields and validation rules, as well as the same structure. However, their layouts may differ.
  2. Classification skills help you determine the document type.
  3. OCR skills help you extract text from document images and export processing results to files of various formats. For example, you can extract text from photos of documents, scanned digital copies of documents, and PDF files. Once your documents have been processed, you can use full-text search to find information, as well as edit the text and formatting (for some export formats).
  4. Splitter skills help you split a flow of pages from files containing multiple documents into separate documents that are ready for further processing.
  5. Process skills are designed to ensure that business-related documents are properly handled as part of your business process. You can use skills from the Skill Catalog to set up the flow of documents. For example, to extract data from several types of documents simultaneously, add a Classification skill to sort documents by their types and the respective Document skill for each specific document type.
Skills are shown as a list and sorted by name. The following information is also displayed for each skill:
  • Skill type (Document, Classification, Process)
  • Skill name
  • Skill version number
  • Skill description
  • Name of the user currently editing the skill
  • The date the skill was last modified on
Version numbers are only displayed for skills that have been published to the Skill Catalog. For more information about publishing a skill and skill version numbers, see Publishing a skill and Skill Versions. Additionally, read-only skills that are used as base skills for derived skills have an icon displayed next to their names. Derived skills also have an icon displayed next to their names.
