Skip to main contentBarcode fields are used to detect document barcodes and automatically convert data encoded therein into alphanumeric format.
To add a Barcode field, do one of the following:
- Add a field region to the image by clicking a barcode that is highlighted in green when the cursor is hovered over it. Alternatively, draw a rectangular area around the barcode. Your new field will be displayed in the data form. The field will be assigned a name automatically. If the automatically assigned name is incorrect, you can modify it by double-clicking the name in the data form or by navigating to the field options by clicking Field options.
Note: The barcode type is also assigned automatically. You can view the assigned type by clicking Field options above the field. If the barcode type was assigned incorrectly, or if this particular area of your document can contain barcodes of more than one type, click the barcode type name and select the appropriate options in the dialog box that will open.
- Add a new field to the data form by clicking the Add Barcode icon on the toolbar, and then specifying a region for the field by drawing a rectangular area around the barcode on the image or by left-clicking the barcode area. The string value of the selected barcode will appear in the field in the data form.
You can also add new barcode field regions to existing fields in the data form by selecting the appropriate field in the data form and then clicking its location on the document image.
General properties of the Barcode field
- Field name. The unique name of the field in a particular skill. The field name cannot contain special symbols like full stops, commas, slashes, colons, asterisks, question marks, quotation marks, less-than signs, greater-than signs, and vertical bars. The maximum allowed length of a field name is 90 symbols.
- Allow multiple items. Specifies whether the barcode is repeating or not. For example, if one invoice is issued for payment of several orders, on the document you might have multiple instances of barcodes.
- Required field. Specifies that the value of the field cannot be left empty. Enabling this property adds a validation rule that checks that a document barcode has been found and extracted to the appropriate field.
Note: If the field is empty after extraction, a rule error is displayed. If the process contains a manual review stage, the document will be sent for manual review.
- Key field. Adds the specified field to the skill’s list of key fields. Key fields can be used to search or filter documents using specific field values in Skill Monitor. Key field values are also displayed when a skill is applied to documents. Key fields are displayed in the corresponding column when documents are grouped by the applied skill.
- Dimension field. Provides detailed information about the field in Skill Monitor.
Note: Dimension field is not currently supported by ABBYY Vantage.
- Barcode type. Specifies which barcode types will be searched for in the document. If an excluded barcode type is detected on a document, it will not be recognized. By default, all barcode types are selected except the postal type.
Tip: If you are aware of the specific barcode types present in your documents, use the settings to exclude other barcode types to speed up processing.
