Images of scanned documents are placed in batches. A batch typically contains images of documents scanned in one go, and it can contain both documents and separate page images. When you first launch the Scanning Station, it creates an empty batch with the default name. The Scanning Station can create batches and documents automatically during scanning. Set up automatic separation and naming rules in one of these places:

Create an empty batch

In the Batches window, use one of the following ways:
  • Click the Create New Batch button on the toolbar.
  • Right-click and select New Batch on the shortcut menu.
  • Press Ctrl+N.

Rename a batch or document

1

Select the item

Select the batch or document in the Batches window.
2

Start editing

Click the name or press F2.
3

Enter the new name

Type a new name for the batch or document.

Create a document

In the Batches window or the image window, select the pages to assemble into a document, then use one of the following ways:
  • Click the Create New Document button on the Batches window toolbar.
  • Right-click and select Create Document on the shortcut menu.
  • Press Ctrl+Shift+C.

Specify a document type

You can specify a document type during batch assembly in one of the following ways.

In the Batches window

To display document types instead of their default names, select Show Document Types instead of Names on the View menu.
1

Open the list of document types

Press F2, click the document name, or right-click the document and select Change Document Type on the shortcut menu.
2

Select the type

Click the document type in the list.

In the Document Properties dialog box

Click the Registration Parameters tab and select the document type from the Type drop-down list.

In the Registration Parameters window

Click the Document tab and select the document type from the Document type drop-down list.

Disassemble a document

In the Batches window or the image window, select the document, then use one of the following ways:
  • Click the Disassemble Document button on the Batches window toolbar.
  • Right-click and select Disassemble Document on the shortcut menu.
  • Press Ctrl+Alt+D.
The pages in the document move to the active batch, and the document itself is deleted.

Separate a batch into documents automatically

Sorting images into documents by hand is time-consuming, so the Scanning Station includes automatic document separation.
If your setup separates batches into documents in FlexiCapture (which can happen when Document Definitions are applied), do not enable this feature.
1

Set the separation options

Select Tools → Options…. In the Options dialog box, click the Batch tab and select the document separation options.
2

Select the batch

In the Batches window, select the batch to separate into documents.
3

Separate the documents

On the Edit menu, select Separate Documents.

Move a page

In the Batches window or the image window, point to the page you want to move, then hold down the left mouse button and drag the page to the document or batch. Alternatively, use the Cut, Copy, and Paste commands on the Edit menu.

Delete a batch, document, or page

In the Batches window or the image window, select the items to delete, then use one of the following ways:
  • Click the Delete button on the Batches window toolbar.
  • Right-click and select Delete on the shortcut menu.
  • Press Del.
